1). MacIan of Glencoe was Alasdair MacDonald, also known as Al exander McDonald, nicknamed The Old Fox and The Red. H e was born late in the third decade of the century, had th e red hair typical of the family, and stood 6 7 tall. He w as educated in Paris and returned to Scotland when his fath er died in 1650. His wife was from the Keppoch MacDonalds w ho lived north of Glencoe. They had two sons, John and Alas dair Og. There was also at least one daughter of whom I hav e no information. Both sons escaped the massacre.
